Carjacking Victim Recounts Attack

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Bludgeoned and bloodied, he was just on a walk with his dog, but this local pastor is alive after a brutal beating Friday.

"I seen I was full of blood, and I couldn't hear out the ear very well," said Woodland Pastor William Gunter.

Gunter is recovering after the brutal carjacking that was just one of the many crimes officers say perpetrated by 38-year-old Jimmy Lee Graves.

"Never saw this coming, never even thought about it because he was talking so nice," said Gunter.

He says Graves was sitting near a piece of farm equipment, off the Yolo Causeway, and told the pastor he was waiting for someone to open a gate.

"I thought he walked away and I saw some birds out there, so I took my binoculars and I looked and that's the last thing I remember," said Gunter.

Gunter was struck multiple times with what was likely a metal pipe, before waking up to find his truck was gone.

Officers believe it was just one of three vehicles carjacked by Graves Friday after he was caught burglarizing a West Sacramento business, opening fire on employees and officers.

After a 14-hour manhunt, deputies caught up to Graves at an Arden Arcade neighborhood, where they would shoot him dead, only after they say he barricaded himself in an apartment and started a major fire.

"He spoke to me just like a real friend, just a normal fellow," said Gunter.

Despite suffering wounds to his head, and broken teeth, the pastor, still in disbelief as to what happened; this man of God will rise above.

"I know people get desperate sometimes, but forgiveness is one of the best things a person could do for anyone," said Gunter.
