Man Crashes Moped After Bank Robbery Attempt In Fair Oaks

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) - A man tried to rob a bank in Fair Oaks on Friday morning but crashed in his getaway vehicle - a moped.

Deputy Jason Ramos of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said the incident started at a Chase Bank at 4802 San Juan Ave. shortly after 9 a.m.

The suspect, whose name hasn't been released, entered the bank and demanded money from a teller but left before receiving any. He appeared to be under the influence, Ramos said.

A bank employee called 911 and provided the moped's license number, Ramos said. The suspect crashed at the intersection of Madison and Lincoln Oaks, where Citrus Heights Police caught up to him and contacted the sheriff's department.

The man sustained injuries from the crash and was taken to the hospital. He'll be booked after he is medically cleared but he was still in the hospital Friday afternoon and might stay overnight, Ramos said.
