Authorities Find Possible Homicide Suspect Dead At Folsom Park

FOLSOM (CBS13) - Sunday morning, California State Parks rangers located an unattended white Ford Ranger truck suspected to be involved in a Mariposa County homicide.

The truck was found at Sudwerk Riverside Restaurant on Greenback Lane. Area witnesses lead officers to believe the suspect was in the adjacent Negro Bar State Park.

"They told us to lock everything down, not let anyone inside and not open for business, cause they weren't sure if he was armed," said Tara Coleman, Sudwerks general manager.

Believing the driver was armed; rangers cleared the area and began a search with the assistance of the Folsom Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Coleman says around 9:00 a.m., a SWAT team and canine unit swarmed the area.

SWAT found the body of a white male along a bike trail in Negro Bar. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There hasn't been a weapon located yet, but it's likely a weapon is at the scene," said Jason Browning, Folsom Police Department.

Folsom police are investigating the death, and the Sacramento County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death and his identity.

Police say it's too early to tell if the man is linked to the homicide in Mariposa County, but the truck he was seen driving could be the connection.

"We'll investigate what we have here today, Mariposa County will continue to investigate what they have and any links will be determined in the future," said Browning.

The suspect is believed to be involved in the Friday homicide of a woman in the Don Pedro sub-division area of Mariposa County.

The Sacramento resident has been identified as 21-year-old Tiffany J. Russell.
