Historical Society Pays Tribute To Roseville Railyard Explosions 40 Years Later

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - An explosion that rattled a Roseville neighborhood is being remembered 40 years later.

In 1973, a railcar carrying 7,000 aircraft bombs exploded in the Roseville railyard. The train was on its way to the Mare Island Naval Shipyard when the accident took place.

The explosion destroyed what then was the small village of Antelope.

On Sunday, the Roseville Historical Society talked about their 40-year tribute to the explosion.

"We try to explain pretty much exactly what historically we know about it, what has been found out about it after the fact and also explain our personal remembrances," said Ken Fisher, Roseville Historical Society.

Even though the explosions took place for most of the day, fortunately no one was hurt in the blast.
