Local Animal Shelters Adopt Out Highest Number Of Pets In Nationwide Push
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento animal shelters topped the nation in pet adoptions last weekend.
Four of the 36 animal rescue organizations participating in ASPCA's national "Mega Match-a-thon" event were in Sacramento and adopted out 526 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.
"I want to congratulate Sacramento on saving well over 500 animals," said ASCPA President and CEO Matthew Bershadker. "It just shows how much can be accomplished when a community's resources are aligned and motivated."
The four participating shelters discounted fees to $20 to take home the animals.
Participating shelters in Philadelphia had the next highest number of adoptions with 340.
