NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) – A man’s body has been found Wednesday afternoon near the South Yuba River, where sheriff’s deputies have been searching for a missing miner.

Investigators with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office are not confirming whether the body is that of 65-year-old Walter Steever, a miner missing for a week.

The body was found about 1,500 feet from Steever’s truck, which was found parked in a fire lane in a rural area near Nevada City. His family says he went gold mining a week ago, but never returned home to San Jose.

Investigators say the missing miner’s family was at the scene Wednesday.

Around 100 volunteers have been scouring the area, searching for Steever.
