Sacramento Crews Clear Leaves Off Streets To Prepare For Coming Rain

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Sacramento crews spent Monday scrambling to get ready for the wet weather, taking preventative measures to avoid flooding.

The city of Sacramento has been busy clearing leaves off the streets, prepping for a storm.

"Mother Nature was kind to us a little bit this year. We've had this dry weather up till now and we've been able to get a lot of leaves off the street," said Erin Treadwell, City of Sacramento.

Time is running out for the many trying to clear leaves out of the way to make way for some water.

"This has been a beautiful fall, absolutely gorgeous," said Cliff Moody.

After nearly two months without a drop on his street, Moody is ready for a change. When he heard a nice slug of rain was on the way, Moody got to work raking so the leaves don't get in the way.

"The leaves get in the gutter, they start backing up, and that's it. I got flooding," he said.

Auto Zone says windshield wipers are flying off the shelves ahead of the rain.

"If you hear them making noise on your windshield, or they are skipping," said Steve Ben.

That's what Mark Martin heard, and knew it was time to replace his sun beaten blades.

"Trying to get it done before it starts raining. Windshield wipers have been messed up for a while," he said.

He stopped in for new ones so he doesn't get soaked Tuesday, when the rain really starts coming down.

"Better to get it done today," he said.
