Gas Prices Begin To Fall Below $2 Per Gallon Near Sacramento

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — Gas prices in the Sacramento area have continued to fall, and one nearby station has dropped below $2 a gallon.

It's a sight a lot of people thought never would be seen again.

"I was shocked, my best friend showed it to me and I said that cannot be," said Wilhelmina Webb.

At a Bonfair gas station in Fairfield, the price recently dropped to $1.97. The Arco up the road says it plans to do the same next week to stay competitive.

Gas station owners like Jas Sohal are also excited about lower prices. With consumers spending less on gas, they have more to spend on items where the station really makes a profit.

"People come and pump gas they are going to buy cigarettes, beer or whatever they can buy," he said.

Economists say oil prices are tough to predict, but the general thinking is they will rise, and so will gas prices, so don't get too cozy with these costs.

But until then, drivers say they will enjoy the extra money they're putting in their pocket instead of the pump.
