Community Rallies Behind Folsom Firefighter In Coma

FOLSOM (CBS13) - The Folsom community is rallying around a Folsom firefighter who's been in a coma for weeks after an accident on a popular recreational trail.

A cyclist slammed into Eric Williams as he was running. He suffered a severe blow to his head.

Two weeks ago, Williams was out running on this popular Folsom trail when he was struck by a cyclist coming downhill. Police say the accident left him in a coma.

Williams' trainer, who's been by his side in the ICU, says Williams hasn't woken up yet. But he's proud of his progress.

"We're all pulling for him to come all the way back. Even the support this far has been some glimmer of hope," said Blaire Morrison, trainer and owner of Crossfit Anywhere.

Morrison says Williams is beginning to move around a little, and his family credits the community support. Thousands of dollars has been raised through fundraisers online and one held at the gym Williams' gym.

People on the trail send prayers to Williams and his family and hope to get the word out about trail safety.

"I think both joggers, walkers and cyclists need to be aware of who's on the trail," said Lauraleen atterson.

Police say the cyclist who hit Williams was also hospitalized in the crash. He will not face criminal charges.
