LODI (CBS13) – One man is dead and an officer has been injured following a gun battle in Lodi.

The incident began around 12:30 p.m. Thursday near 200 W Lodi and Point Pleasant avenues.

Police detectives went to a McDonald’s restaurant in the area to search for a wanted suspect. There, they made contact with the suspect, an adult male, who allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at officers, according to a Lodi Police Department statement.

Police returned fire, killing the suspect. An officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital to be treated.

Clyde W. Needham Elementary School was placed on lockdown shortly after the shooting as a precaution, but the lockdown has been lifted.
