U.S. Air Force Promotes Spencer Stone To Staff Sergeant

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) - Airman Spencer Stone, one of three Sacramento natives who helped stop an attack on a French train, has been promoted.

Stone was promoted from airman first class to staff sergeant. The ceremony took place at Travis Air Force Base on Friday.

The 23-year-old Stone is still recovering from stab wounds he received in an Oct. 8 incident in Midtown Sacramento. Police still have not found the two men suspected of stabbing Stone.

Stone, along with his childhood friends Army Spc. Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Saddler, rose to national prominence in August after they helped stop a suspected terrorist attack on a train headed to France. The airman was also stabbed in that incident.

According to the U.S. Air Force, Stone was first promoted to senior airman, then to staff sergeant in the same ceremony.
