Man, 31, Being Booked At Sacramento County Jail Suffers Medical Emergency, Dies

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – An investigation is underway to determine how a man died while in custody of police.

The Sacramento Police Department says 31-year-old Edward Currie died Saturday night.

Investigators believe a medical emergency cost him his life.

Currie had been arrested about an hour prior to his death. He was taken into custody along the 2200 block of Northgate Boulevard and drugs were allegedly found in his possession.

Police say Currie suffered some sort of medical emergency while being screened by nurses at Sacramento County Jail. CPR was given, but Currie was soon pronounced dead.

The official cause of death will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
