CHP Holds Procession For Fallen Officer Nathan Taylor
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - Hundreds lined local streets to stay good-bye to a CHP officer killed in the line of duty.
Today, a procession brought Officer Nathan Taylor's body from Reno to a Roseville chapel. And whether you knew Officer Taylor or just heard the tragic news of his passing, today it was a true testament to how much he was loved and respected for his service.
A stretch of flashing lights gave pause to communities as the procession made it way west from Reno.
"Whenever you hear the sirens and see the lights, it's heart wrenching," said Vanessa Anderson, a friend of Taylor's family.
It's was somber tribute that drew big crowds -- all in honor of a fallen CHP officer killed in the line of duty.
Robin Baker knew the officer's family for years.
"It's just a very sacred moment to honor somebody who really loves his country, loved the people he served," said Baker.
Taylor was 35 years old, a father of three who worked out of the Gold Run office in the Sierra. He died Sunday at a Reno hospital from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 80 while directing traffic.
"I came to pay my respects for the community for the family, for all the officers who risk their lives every single day," said Christina Luking.
People who knew him, and those who didn't, lined the streets and overpasses, embracing and waving flags. As the CHP color guard moved his casket inside a Roseville chapel, family held onto each other to find strength.
"It's heart-breaking and it's comforting to see CHP come together when there's tragedy," said Stacie Oesterreich, a spectator.
And now, the tragedy is uniting a community.
People say he was a wonderful person. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday.
