SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The name of the new upscale hotel next to Golden 1 Center has been revealed.

Despite Sacramento’s link to Mark Twain, the hotel’s name is actually inspired by a real-life Sawyer – judge Lorenzo Sawyer, best known for his 1884 decision that would help shape conservationism in the US. “Sawyer’s Decision” banned mining processes that polluted California’s waterways.READ MORE: Fourth Stimulus Check: Will You See Another Relief Payment?
With the new arena being designed with a big emphasis on sustainability, Sacramento Kings and Kimpton officials say the Sawyer name is a perfect fit.

The hotel will be 16 stories tall and have 250 rooms. It’s expected to open in spring 2017.
