Woman Survives Highway 12 Crash That Trapped Her Car Under Big Rig

RIO VISTA (CBS13) – Authorities say Highway 12 was closed in both directions in the Delta due to a significant crash late Monday morning.

The scene on Highway 12, east of Highway 160 and the Rio Vista Bridge.

Several vehicles, including two big rigs, were involved in the crash. Exactly what led up to the crash is unclear, but California Highway Patrol says a car ended up trapped beneath one of the big rigs.

A 49-year-old woman was eventually extricated from the car and flown to a nearby hospital. CHP says the woman suffered only moderate injuries.

Officers say seatbelts, airbags and "a little luck" likely saved the woman.

CHP will be investigating the crash.
