• Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento Broke Ball and FundraiserOn May 17th, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento Broke Ball and fundraiser was at the Teichert Branch on Lemon Hill, honoring Club Alumni, SMUD Field of Dreams with the theme “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” Sacramento was the last capital city in the United States to open a Boys & Girls Club. Spearheaded by Fred Teichert, the Sacramento organization was incorporated in October 1993, with services starting in 1996 out of the New Helvetia Housing Complex. The first freestanding club in Sacramento opened in September 1999 in the Alkali Flat neighborhood in downtown Sacramento. This club exists today and is called the Thomas P. Raley Branch, in honor of the investment made by the Raley's Family Foundation to establish a Boys & Girls Club in Sacramento.

Center for Fathers and Families 25th Anniversary and Salute to Fatherhood BanquetOn June 13, the 17th Annual Salute to Fatherhood Banquet and the 25th Anniversary Celebration was held at the Doubletree Hotel, honoring three Fathers of the Year, celebrating positive male role models in out community. The Salute to Fatherhood Banquet honors and highlights men in the community who have been exemplary fathers or father figures. Honorees: Bobby Jackson, Assistant Coach, Sacramento Kings Kevin Nagle, Chairman/CEO Sacramento Republic Albert Araiza All proceeds go to Center for Fathers and Families programs and services including MASTERS and Adult Services to support and empower Sacramento families. The Center for Fathers and Families (CFF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency with a strong history of responding to the needs of fathers and their families by offering programs and services that lead to family growth, enrichment, and empowerment. Over the course of its history, CFF has impacted thousands of children, families, and adults in Sacramento County through one of our three main initiatives:

Sacramento Tree Foundation Hero AwardsOn May 29th the Sacramento Tree Foundation held the annual Tree Hero Awards. The dinner was held beneath the verdant, heritage 300 year old native oak grove at the California Farm Bureau hosted 250 attendees, including leaders of Sacramento's most influential businesses, national and state elected officials, and tree lovers from around the region. Cleaner air, healthier communities, and economic prosperity are the result of a healthy urban forest. For this reason, our region's long-term health, economic vitality and quality of life depend on investing in and maximizing the benefits of our urban forest — it depends on our commitment to trees and to those that champion them. C.K. McClatchy Award Fatima Malik Austin B. Carroll Award, Pacific STIHL Growing Greenprint Award, Division of State Architect (DSA) Legacy Award, Fair Oaks Bluff Blue Oak Special Award for Ray Tretheway, receiving the Tree Hero Lorax Award for his service to the foundation and retirement after 30+years with the Sacramento Tree Foundation.
