Wet Weather To Persist Through Weekend

Drivers, be patient: It's going to take longer to get where you're going.

Heavy overnight rainfall soaked the valley and dropped the first round of snow on the Sierra, and Mother Nature isn't done yet.

The cold storm gave the Sacramento area a brief respite early Saturday morning but is expected to return with a vengeance in the afternoon and overnight hours. The Stockton area will get a longer break before showers return.

The heaviest rainfall is expected between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, bringing as much as a third of an inch of rain per hour and wind gusts up to 30 MPH.

Falling temperatures will also bring snow to elevations as low as 1500 feet overnight. The lower foothills could see three to six inches of snow, but the higher elevations are expected to see as much as three to five feet.

The storm is expected to keep rain and snow falling over the area through Sunday.
