Mayor Johnson Barely Mentions Arena Deal At State Of The City Address

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) --  Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson barely mentioned a new arena in today's State of the City Address, so are the Kings closer to leaving?

Last year building a new arena was the Mayor's number one priority at the State of the City Address.  He promised a plan by the end of the basketball season.

"We've never been in a better position to have this conversation," Johnson said in February 2010.

The season ended- and started again- without an arena plan.  So in this year's State of the City Address, the arena didn't make the Mayor's list of priorities.

"We're not there yet, and I know we've been talking about this," said Johnson.

Johnson only spent a minute talking about the new arena in vague terms, never mentioning the Kings or the Maloofs.

After the event, he was asked specifically about their status, and insisted he's still holding on to hope that the new arena will keep them here.

"We have four developers, four teams that believe they can put proposals together. At the end of the day, they've got to show us how they're going to pay for it.  That's a million dollar question; that's the real question," Johnson explains.
