Crews Recover Body Found Near Cosumnes River

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Authorities have recovered a body discovered hanging from a tree  in the Cosumnes River Preserve early Monday morning.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says a group of kayakers found a dead male hanging from a tree with his hands tied behind his back near a railroad track crossing on Sunday.

Search teams went out on the river about 10 a.m. Monday morning after deciding not to attempt to recover the body Sunday evening because of the remote area and river conditions could have put the crews in danger.

The body was found in an area that is usually dry ground but is currently flooded.  The body is hanging about 6 feet above the water.

The cause of death could be suspicious since the people who made the discovery said the victim's arms were tied loosely behind his back.

However, Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies say it is not uncommon to find suicide victims with their hands tied behind their backs to stop themselves from trying to free themselves.
