Fair Oaks Girl, 7, Found Dead After Short Search

 

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) – A 7-year-old girl who was found dead after a frantic search inFair Oaks Thursday night has been identified.

The Sacramento County Coroner's office has identified the girl as Uliana Shevchuk. 

Shevchuk was found shortly after she went missing near herFair Oaksapartment near Vir Mar Street around 11:00 last night.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies say her family had just returned home and parked near the apartment complex.  Uliana's parents say she ran ahead of them and when they reached their apartment, Uliana was not there.
 
They immediately called 911 and a sheriff's helicopter was called in to help search from the air.

Neighbors say the girl was found on a patch of grass less than 50 yards from her family's second-floor home.

"The helicopter started hovering and landed in the middle of the street down there," said neighbor Jim Jungsten. "I saw the police rush in and it looked to me like they found a girl next to a bush.  They picked her up and were trying to work on her."

Uliana was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.

Uliana's parents told deputies she had a heart condition.  Deputies are waiting for the coroner to determine the cause of death.
