Mattress Fire Sends Residents Running From Sacramento Apartment Building

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Fire fighters believe a mattress caught fire inside a studio apartment sending residents running from the building and one man to the hospital.

The fire broke out at an apartment complex across from the State Capitol on 15th Street.

When fire fighters arrived, they found flames shooting from the second floor of the three-story building.

The fire is believed to have started when a mattress caught fire in a studio apartment. The man inside that unit was taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire fighters say everyone else was able to scramble to safety and get out of the building.

Fire fighters are still trying to determine what cause the mattress to catch fire.
