Shasta Dam Releases To More Than Double To Make Room For More Water

SHASTA COUNTY (CBS13) – Get ready for the Sacramento River to start rising as water officials try and make room for more rain and runoff.

The Federal Bureau of Reclamation is increasing the releases from Shasta Dam beginning tonight at 5:00 p.m. The flow will go from 9,000 cubic feet per second to 20,000 by 9:00 p.m.

Water officials say the increased water releases are necessary to meet regulatory requirements to have enough space for incoming water. The water releases will remain at the higher rate until further notice.

Anyone going in or near the Sacramento River should take extra precautions due to the high river flows.
