OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Family and friends have gathered to remember a 16-year-old Oroville boy who drowned along with two other relatives when their car plunged into the Feather River.
About 100 people gathered at Cody Olson’s home on Monday.
Authorities say the Oroville High School student was behind the wheel on Saturday when he lost control and the car plunged 100 feet off a cliff north of town. He died along with his 9-year-old half-brother, Jameson, and their father, 35-year-old Jameson Olson.
The California Highway Patrol says Olson tried to rescue both and managed to get his brother to a rock but eventually all three died in the frigid, swift water.
The California Highway Patrol says unsafe speed, rain and poor tire tread probably were factors in the accident.
