4-Year-Old Nearly Drowns At Elk Grove Community Pool

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – An alert young girl and a parent saved the day at an Elk Grove community pool when they rescued a 4-year-old who nearly drowned.

The near drowning happened at the Wackford Community and Aquatic Complex off of Bruceville Road just after 3:00 p.m.

The four-year-old apparently walked into the water and was pulled out by a young girl and another parent who were at the pool.

We spoke to one girl who helped pull the boy from the pool.

"An then we took him out and put him on the cement and then we called the lifeguard and she was doing what they have to do," she said.

The incident was understandably upsetting for pool patrons who could only stand by, watch and pray.

"It was scary. And all the people who were next to us just started crying," said a girl at the pool.

"People were praying...standing there with their arms up," said another girl.

The boy was not breathing when he was pulled out of the pool. Lifeguards started CPR and Cosumnes firefighters were called. They transported the boy to the hospital in critical condition where doctors were able to revive him.

He is reportedly breathing on his own and talking.

Officials at the pool cleared everyone out of the pools.  They have been give vouchers so they can come back and swim another day.
