Proposed Calif. State Bill Seeks To End Death Penalty
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A California state assembly committee today discussed whether the death penalty should be replaced with life in prison without parole.
The bill was proposed by State Senator Loni Hancock of Oakland.
Hancock argues the death penalty legal process is costing the state millions of dollars a year. Only 13 people have been executed in California since the death penalty was reinstated in 1978.
The committee is expected to vote on the bill next Wednesday.
