Identity Of Explosion Victim Released

MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) -- The name of a scientist who was killed in an explosion at a technology company in Menlo Park has been released.

Authorities say 56-year-old Adrian Martin died after the blast in a laboratory at Membrane Technology and Research Inc. around 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Menlo Park Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman says Martin was transferring a mixture of gases from one cylinder to another at the time of the explosion.

He says Cal-OSHA investigators and fire officials are looking at the containers involved.

The force of the blast knocked a woman from a doorway of the laboratory into an adjacent hallway. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of possible ear drum injuries. Her name has not been released.

A call by The Associated Press to the company on Saturday seeking comment about the blast was not immediately returned.
