Two Sentenced To Life in 2004 Natomas Beating Death

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A man and a woman were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday for the murder of a Natomas man seven years ago, District Attorney Jan Scully announced.

Robert Hammons, 26, and Christina Martinez, 26, were convicted by jury last month for the first-degree murder of Clayton Skinner, 37, in July 2004. The sentences included special circumstances that the murder was committed during the commission of a robbery and a burglary.

Hammons was also found guilty of assaulting Skinner with a steering wheel car club a week prior to the murder when he and his two teenage brothers went to Skinner's home to look at a car he was selling.

The following week Hammons, girlfriend Martinez and the two brothers returned to Skinner's home to rob him. When he attempted to defend himself, Hammons beat him to death with a steering wheel car club.
