VACAVILLE (CBS13) — Several dogs were poisoned during a medical marijuana robbery at a Vacaville residence, authorities said.

The Vacaville Police Department said a resident on the 300 block of Temple Drive called authorities early Saturday morning to report that someone had stolen nine marijuana plants, each valued at about $3,000, from his backyard between 3:30 a.m. and 5:15 a.m.

The victim also noticed his four Boxer dogs behaving oddly, and when he searched his backyard, he found pieces of hot dogs stuffed with blue pills strewn across his property.

Investigators said the pills were apparently Tylenol PM. The dogs appear to be doing well and the owner plans to have them treated by a veterinarian for any long term effects.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact police at (707) 449-5200.

I do not have nor wish to have weed plants or weed but I do have 3 Boxers and I would never put them in a position to be between anyone and a drug I might be growing. I love my dogs to much and if I had done something like this and made them vulnerable because I put them between a thief and my weed plants I could never forgive myself….

Imagine instead of marijuana the article used the word gold, or large sums of cash, or antiques. Anything of value has a chance of attracting thieves. Now would you still not use your dogs to protect what is of value to you?

  • Whitey

    LMAO too funny…

I think people who put their faith in dogs as deterrent are barking up the wrong tree. For the price of maintaining a dog, a video surveillance system costs less, and can tell you and the cops who did it and at what time. Dog can’t do that. Dogs are easy to pacify. When I was engineering out among the great plains farm lands, I always carried a bag of dog treats to reward the dogs who challenged me. One even followed for the next ten miles. When I met the radio truck (field engineers reported measurements), the pooch was so tired we put him in the car and drove him back to the farmhouse.

Let’s face the facts. Weed is for getting high.

Just like Johnny Walker Red or Budweiser that’s what it’s for.

Until weed is 100% legal for people over 21 to buy, these kind of crimes will continue to happen.

Legalize & tax it for everyone over 21 to buy!

So called Medical Pot is a joke and everyone here in CA knows it. Everything they said would not happen if they passed the refrendum did. What kind of quack Doctor would recommend that a patient smoke anything never mind pot. It is a joke and a lie and the decent productive people in California (what few of us there are left here) are paying the price financially and in social decay.

  • Bob

Druggies showing a total disregard for life; go figure!!!

  • AFSGTSAM

At least you admit what pot is all about and it is not medicine. I may not agree with legalizing it but at least you are honest.

“A Dog is very religious and its religion is free from superstition. The god it believes in is its master, and that god actually exists, and is actually concerned about its welfare, and actually rewards it and punishes it, on a plan comprehensible to Dogs and meeting with their approval, for its virtues and vices. Dogs need not waste any time over insoluble theological problems. Their god is plainly visible and wholly understandable — they have no need of clergy to guess for them, mislead them and get them into trouble.” ~ H.L. Mencken

These so called pot shops are helping to destroy neighborhoods here in Sacramento County they draw in the dregs and bums of soceity. No wonder towns like Folsom wont allow them. It is still a big lie.

If you think that cannabis has no medicinal value, you truly must be living under a rock. Try doing some research before you spread your ignorance. Check out this link. This is a site that has compiled a ton of research and made it available in one, central location. To clear any possible confusion on your part, the site itself is pro-cannabis in its aim, but the links are to studies that have absolutely nothing to do with the site and have been performed by various government, medical, independent, and academic groups. http://www.cannabisasmedicine.com/medical-research-journals

  • santa y que

we need to start a government investigation to see if the dogs were paid at least minimum wage, worked tooo many hours per week, were offered health insurance, had adequate water/food, were unwillfully subjected to THC as they were exposed to the pot they were guarding, provided HVAC as needed…let’s see, what else…?
    hazard pay ?

  • Odins Acolyte

Change hemp laws. It shouldn’t be illegal. This stuff would never happen otherwise.

  • Hank Warren

Absurd marijuana laws, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our rights:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.
Impeach Obama, vote for Ron Paul.
    (Last link of Banned Book):

  • Readabook

You are an idiot. How many posts do you have on here? Have you ever been to a dispensary? Do you realize that it costs money to get/maintain a medical recommendation? Money that bums don’t have…. Do you realize that prices are higher in dispensaries than on the streets? Why the hell would a bum spend money on a medical recommendation and pay higher prices for something he can get on the street? Also, you are completely misinformed regarding the effect of dispensaries on an area. Because of the ample on site security that dispensaries have, neighboring business benefit from a free security guard or two patrolling the area. Neighboring businesses such as restaurants, quicky marts, etc… also benefit from increased traffic as customers of dispensaries begin to stop at those businesses. Dispensaries contribute a lot of tax dollars that fund the public works in your own area. You need to open your eyes. Even if cannabis was not being used/sold for medicinal purposes, you think its any worse than alcohol and liquor stores? I would much rather have a dispensary pop up across the street from my house than a liquor store….. If you say otherwise, you are living in a dream world.

  • Karl Magnus

The home owner should be thankful that the thieves had a heart – for animals anyhow. The dogs could have been killed by other easy poisonous meds.
BTW … The value of the plants is highly exaggerated. As Usual.

    ~(Ä)~

  • Montford John Greenwood

Why tax it? Let people grow their own stuff and let them use it when appropriate. If they use weed on important jobs they get fired. Kind of like beer. Why do we want to give our money to the Federal reserve?

  • Caligula

You get what you ask for.

  • Caligula

Why? Did Michael Vick do this? You’re an idiot.

  • Caligula

You have no idea if the value is exaggerated or not. You don’t know how much each plants yields, what strain it is or how much they sell it for. You’re just an assuming, know-it-all ignoramus.

“For the price of maintaining a dog, a video surveillance system costs less, and can tell you and the cops who did it and at what time. Dog can’t do that.”

Perpetrators may perceive dogs as being dangerous. A large portion of protecting property is to make it so that the perp thinks it’s easier to rob someone else.

Video cameras are not a panacea. For one thing, they aren’t going to bark and chase a perp. Too, perps are wise enough these days to steal the entire video recording system.

Find the brand of hot dogs and check the local store receipts. If any acquaintances are revealed, then there you go. Most likely it is a neighbor.

  • Larry

Pretty clever thieves. Poisoning guard dogs is a very logical step before entering a protected area. I’m surprised that we don’t hear this more often.

  • Karen Langley

I really hope you are not in the Air Force. We need smarter people than this.

  • Moose

clearly the thieves are not stupid and not doped up consumers of these plants.

And why is the FED in arresting the “owner” of these plants and his probably dangerous pitbull dogs that should not have been in a neighborhood in the first place

  • illegals are not a protected class

um… is this the police? my illegal stuff was illegally stolen. oh yea, and I’m also an illegal. can you help me?

  • teaj

guess they can’t claim victimless status anymore.

  • doggielvr

Hopefully we don’t hear about this more often because every PotHead knows that getting high for the rest of your life isn’t worth the life of one dog…

  • teaj

legalize it tax it.. all of a sudden you can’t find nothing but shwag for 100 bucks a gram because 90% is being stolen by the gov’t.. This is great idea if you have a useless gov’t job that needs funding.

  • teaj

  • Nice

This is news? Like our nation doesnt have anything going on right now? like a Obama communist takeover? You’re kidding right?

  • Mitch

The dogs were given Tylenol PM to put them to sleep. To me, that’s not poisoning them. Poison would be cyanide or arsenic. Dogs can handle almost every over the counter medication that are made for people.

  • tony a.

Pot smokers purchase or grow their pot. Thieves steal things. Do not conflate the two.

  • Muriel Ng Bode

The brand of hot dogs? How the hell would you do that? And even if you did, who’s to say they bought them locally? Wow what a nut-case you are!!

  • Drago

    tylonal is poisionous to dogs

  • Kevin

Under the law robbery requires force or the threat of force against a person,

    So this was a burglary.

Bbut it’s interesting it would’ve been a robbery had they forcibly drugged people instead of dogs to gain access.

  • GL Lee

These weren’t potheads… these were thieves. The potheads are home eating Hot Pockets.

  • GL Lee

It was still probably given to them just to put them asleep for a while. I doubt too many people know that Tylenol is poisonous to dogs… myself included.

  • Rita Ippolito

Yea.. these were real Einsteins… save your admiration for those who deserve it you twit

  • Nick Renesis

You mean you can grow your own weed, call it medicinal and its ok? What a country!

  • CC Rider

Hey, c’mon Muriel. CSI does it in 30 minutes! One hour max. Don’t you know nuthin”?

  • Caligula

At least they’ll have a good alibi. They won’t even remember where they were or what they did.

  • Jerzey Boy

Sure, give the dogs a pass. They were chewing the pot plants and blamed it on some bogus hot-dog excuse.
The give away was the mutts were singing old Hendricks tunes and asking for tons of Beggin’ Strips.

  • Dude man

Dude man someone stole my drugs better call the cops man.

  • John

THere is no such thing as “Medical Marijuana” this is a carefully orchistrated plan to put the American prople on Marijuana. There are no beneifts that cannot be obtained with LEGAL drugs.

Just GREEDY drug dealers trying to get legal so they can sell MILLIONS of harmful drugs.

  • Bullwinkle

    READ they were Boxers

  • ZH

What an idiot, they make more money with it being illegal. The drug dealers only get dangerous, greedy, and support gangs because it is illegal. Medical Marijuana has many treatments as administered in Canada, Portugal, California and has been used naturally by man kind for thousands of years with little to no negative effects. People with M.S., and cancer probably benefit the best as no other drug can come close to it’s ability at reducing naseau and helping people feel comfortable. If it were legal and people grew them in there own backyard…how would the drug dealers sell millions? If they tried to rip off the users, the users would just be like f** that, i’m growing my own. Bet you didn’t think of that? It’s just common sense, but so many people have none nowadays because they went to public schools and watch way too much TV, oh yea, and they actually trust our crooked as government. It’s time to get rational, and stop supporting the use of force against others (whether it be through gov’t or not)! These people aren’t hurting anyone else anyways, f*** it, let em’ smoke crack if they want (but very few even would anyways).

  • ZH

That’s a good idea Mike_88, I don’t know how someone would call you a nutjob for such a great suggestion that could possibly lead to an arrest. Then again, it seems they’d probably be smarter than leaving the empty packages or any traces at the crime scene. It must have been someone friendly with the dogs though huh? Seems they would’ve barked and homeboy coulda came outside with his shotty? That’s how you really protect your sh*t.

  • Cynthia Hillard

Why harm the dogs? either buy some pot or grow it or even bum some off your buddies. As for growing open in the yard, stupid.

  • ZH

They didn’t want to kill the dogs, or they would’ve, so they must’ve had at least a little compassion. “nice” thieves, haha.

  • Jeff Hall

Harmful is an interesting word. Try finding valida data on those who OD on weed. You can find plenty on those who OD from LEGAL perscription medication used/obtained illegally.

  • ZH

yea besides, why such motivation to place force upon others through the use of government? This country is supposed to be free, and you have no idea, he could have been one of the best dog owners out there, and the most responsbile pot smokers too. People supporting the gov’ts corrupt agenda are part of the problem we have in this country. Sh*t, why don’t you go and tell your neighbors what they can and cannot do, and you’ll learn real quick that it’s a pretty f**cked up thing to do when they are harming no one. Besides, the thieves probably got high, starting thinking outside of the box (do u know anything about that?), and then they had the idea of drugging the dogs to get the plants, kinda f**ked up, but also a little brilliant (at least it worked for their purposes). So I say, maybe it’s clear that they were ‘doped up’ consumers, but stupid for stealing.

  • ZH

I know right, but it’s a pretty funny story, and then again because of this gov’ts crazy control and stealing of our freedoms, the thieves couldn’t grow their own plants. So it does come around, full circle. But yea, let’s get to the real issues. END THE FED!

  • Slick

it is those damn Dodger dogs I bet

  • Shredderofmass

They might have been successful if they hadn’t gotten the munchies part way through and ate some of their own spiked hot dogs.

As soon as the guard dogs woke up they pulled the ghost mask off of the lead thief and realized that it was old Mr Johnson from the abandoned amusement park. “I’d have gotten away with it if not for those meddling pot heads.

  • Bill

Apparently you didn’t take your meds this am.

  • randy

John you are so misinformed about the molecular benefits of cannabanoids that are even in YOUR bloodstream. Cannabanoids is a natural molecule that is beneficial in countless ways. You should read up and educate yourself about neuro-inhibitors and the benefits of cannabis vs. chemically made drugs with terrible side effects that destroy your liver and offer thoughts of suicide?

  • Most of you are stupid

What amazes me is that most of you dumbsh$ts can’t even spell even the most simple words.

Which is part of why this country is fubar.

  • JAB

About Tylenol PM (or ANY Tylenol), Mitch, you are misinformed. It is liver toxic when taken in excess and a slow and agonizing death for a human, or canine to experience. Please don’t suggest to me that the poisoners ‘dosed’ the dogs appropriately.

  • Beach Luigi

I say legalize it, but keep it away from children under 21. If a chld under 18 is caught using it, the parents are fined $5000 the first time and will go to jail for 1 week for the second offense, because it is harmful to children.

For the 18-21 years olds, if caught driving, they lose their driver’s license for 1 year, plus have to do 1 month of community service. We should have the same rule for alcohol. If your still using it over 21, you are just stuoid, but you have every right to be stupid. If you drive, you lose your license, and if you go to work high, you get fired on the spot! No lawsuits against the employer.

  • Pam

I am a cat person but anyone who intentionally inflicts suffering on an animal, especially a very sentient creature such as a dog, should be shot to death by firing squad. I am not joking. I would like to be on that squad and get rid of the lowlife(s) who committed this cruelty.

Also, pot is no big deal. Legalize it for people 21 and up.

  • Drago

Marijuana makes you stupid. that being said, you have a right to be stupid, the only thing government should do is inform people the REAL hazards of MJ use.

  • walter12

One would have to be insane or have a death wish to live in California nowadays. After 40 years of leftist and treasonous state assemblies, today’s California is what you get. The state is inundated with criminals, gangs, illegal Mexcians, dopers, deadbeats, nutcases, and the welfare set. Wow, but you guys have the big one to look forward to. And it is coming.

9 marijuana plants valued at 3000 each…..right, Im sure this medicinal user needed 27,000 dollars worth of pot…….everyone should be able to grow $27,000 dollars worth of pot right. I mean, who could possibly be tempted to get a prescription for weed and sell…….regulate that ish and legalize it befoer someone gets killed or injured during a robbery
