Manteca Woman's Tricycle Stolen Twice

MANTECA (CBS13) -- Andrea McClure is epileptic, so she can't drive a car, can't even get a driver's license. She relies on her tricycle to get around. But in the last week and a half, she's had not one, but two tricycles stolen.

Monday afternoon she showed CBS13 where her red tricycle was stolen a week and a half ago.
Andrea, who's suffered from epilepsy all her life, including seizures that affect her ability to walk long distances, was upset her only mode of transportation had been taken.

But she wasn't nearly as mad as when we talked to her just a few hours later.

"I'm getting tired of people stealing," she said. "It's about time young and old people get off their butts and go find a job."

Andrea's mood change was understandable because just hours after we first talked to her the replacement bike she just bought was stolen.

And this time, the thief made a fast getaway.

"He was gonna ride all the way down 99 to Turlock," said Officer Bob Anderson of the Manteca Police Department.

That's right, the thief was caught riding the trike on the shoulder of the highway just minutes after the bike was stolen.

"We see her riding around the city all the time," Anderson said. "She's a good citizen. We're happy to get her bike back."

So after two strikes of bad luck, Andrea is happy to be back on her trike once again.

"It feels like a hot rod," she said as she rode off.
