Shower Planned For K Street Mall

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- People have called the K Street Mall a lot of things: dirty, run-down full of potential. But public shower friendly? No.

But plans for a public shower are indeed in the works for the mall, confirmed through staff report papers and a statement from the Environmental Health Department.

The shower will be located a block from the now closed Greyhound station and the Hotel Marshall, places where blight have plagued downtown Sacramento for decades. But the city's spent millions and millions trying to make it nicer here.

This shower would go up in the spring, when the ice rink at the mall is gone. That's when the city plans to open an interactive water fountain here as part of a $1.5 million upgrade to part of K Street.

It turns out a shower along with a bathroom is required by state law for any interactive water feature.

It feels like a friendly environment on ice, but what about when the ice goes away?

"Not so friendly," one woman tells CBS13's Steve Large.

But another is more receptive. "I don't know if i would shower, but I'd go in the water," she says.

No one from the city would talk to CBS13 on camera.

Maybe people in charge of it are worried that talking about whether it could get them in hot water.
