Modesto Duplex Fire Displaces Two Families

MODESTO (CBS13) -- Two Modesto families are homeless after flames destroyed a duplex Monday afternoon.

Firefighters say the blaze broke out around 2:30 p.m. on Fairview Avenue.

Residents say a 4-year-old and his father were inside when the boy's bedroom caught on fire.

Flames spread to the neighboring unit but everyone got out OK.

During the rescue the family's dog bit a firefighter. He was sent to the hospital for stitches but otherwise was OK.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
