UPDATE: 7 Power Poles Taken Out In Highway 70 Crash

MARYSVILLE (CBS13) – A suspected DUI driver took out a number of utility poles on Highway 70 in Yuba County on Tuesday morning, forcing the highway's closure for several hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers first received reports of lines down on Highway 70 just north of Marysville around 4 a.m. Officers arrived to find seven power poles down with cables across the roadway.A 3.5-stretch of the highway was closed in both directions.

It took several hours to remove the poles and reopen the roadway.

A witness told CHP they saw a red pick-up truck swerve off the roadway into a ditch and hit a pole, which brought down six others. The truck then took off. The witness told CHP the driver may have been drinking.

"The witness did say alcohol may have been involved, we don't know," Officer Mike Tenney said.

Officers are now looking for that full-size red truck, which no doubt has front end damage.
