SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A California lawmaker who pleaded no contest last week to charges that she shoplifted from a San Francisco department store has issued an apology.

In her first public statement about the incident, Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi called it a “painful experience” but said Monday she wanted to “offer apologies, not excuses.”

Hayashi was arrested last October after security cameras caught her walking out of a Neiman Marcus store with clothing that wasn’t paid for. She pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of grand theft and was sentenced to probation.

The Castro Valley Democrat says she unintentionally walked out of the store without paying.

Hayashi says “a number of personal factors” contributed to her absentmindedness, including a benign brain tumor that’s she being treated for. But she insists that she’s taking full responsibility for her actions.

Oh, I am taking full responsibility but, by the way, I have a brain tumor. Democrats, by and large, think the rest of the world owes them something. I’m sure she just thought it owed her a new sweater. Obama shoplifts our Constitutional rights every day, where;s the hidden camera footage of that? Where’s the media coverage of the illegal actions he’s taken while President?

Brain tumor my arse. Throw her theiving kun-dingi in jail…

Release the video and let the people decide if it was an accident! I’m sure the loss prevention staff at Neiman Marcus (which is highly trained by the way) would side with the general public. Apology or not….she’s still a thief!!!

Guilty of a crime.. go to jail take your husband with you

  • SHE IS A JERK

The benign brain tumor temporarily affected her decision making. If you or I tried to sell that to the courts, it would be rejected out of hand. Democrats do not believe in personal responsibility for actions. If you are liberal, it must be someone elses fault if you have shortcomings…

    RESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least the cops arrested her instead of cutting her loose like the CHP did with Carol Migden. Instead of shoplifting, she should have just popped a bunch of pills and gone on an intoxicated rampage on the interstate. Then shouted her status and position at the top of her lungs in front of witnesses and victims she had just seriously injured. Way to go, CHP. The fact that legislators vote on your raises had NO influence on those actions, I’m sure. CHP…the best cops money can buy.
