Davis Residents Rattled By Series Of Break-Ins

DAVIS (CBS13) - Some Davis residents are on edge after a rash of home burglaries — police have responded to more than a dozen break-ins since the turn of the new year.

The front door of an upscale Davis home is boarded up after a burglar kicked it in early Sunday morning.

Next door neighbors on Yana Place were rattled by the break-in. "It is somewhat concerning," one said.

Another burglary attempt made news last week when a 12-year-old boy called 911 while hiding as an intruder entered his home.

"There's a man trying to break into my house," the boy says to the 911 operator.

"What room are you in?"

"I'm in the bathroom in the back of the house. He's trying to break into my back door."

Police say it was one of 16 home burglaries as of Saturday since the start of the year.

Ab apartment complex near the Yana Place house break-in was also hit. An apartment was burglarized on Friday. A laptop and wallet were stolen.

"To see somebody's house or apartment broken into just down the hall means we really gotta bump up our security here, in a town that's supposed to be safe," apartment resident Maurice Parson said. "Just lock your doors, make sure your windows are closed, and see if my dog starts barking excessively."

Meanwhile police urge neighbors to be on the lookout.

"I don't know if it's just a pattern of people coming off the highway just looking for a quick strike," the Yana neighbor said. "I also think people should look out for each other."

There's been one burglary arrest, but police are not sure if that suspect is responsible for the burglaries that have happened since the start of the year.
