INCLINE VILLAGE (CBS13) – A battle over a bear trap in Tahoe has some neighbors fired up while others fear harassment. As soon as we arrived in Incline Village, we caught a woman pouring Pine-Sol outside a bear trap to keep it away.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife believes a mother bear is a threat after she tore sliding off of a home and broke into two cars in an Incline Village neighborhood. Animal rights activists say they want the bear to be left alone.

The woman who reported a bear break-in says she’s now being harassed after her name was posted on Tahoe’s wall of shame facebook page.

Wildlife officials say they have to trap and euthanize the bear for public safety. They also say they expect to see a lot more aggressive bear behavior this season.

If the ” Animal rights activists” want the bear to be left alone, than let them start paying for the damage done by this bear, let them be responsible for all the damage she does. As a matter of fact, I would start billing them just because…

That bear could tear the hide off a child or adult in nothing flat it is dangerous, sad but true humans have taken away all the bears habitat, however humans lives are more important.

It’s funny, the Animal Rights Activists are always making problems for people until it’s they who get violated. Then they sue whom ever they can. I agree with Phil, If they are thwarting Animal Control, they should be billed for all costes and damages incured.

I agree that it is dangerous to have a bear roaming around a neighborhood, but it is not the bears fault that we moved in and started destroying its habitat. It should be removed from the area, but killed? I don’t think thats fair at all.

Home owners should make sure their insurance is paid up, and buy the biggest gun they can handle. If the bear gets in the house it’s no better than any burglar.

The people who should be billed for damages (and fined) are the people who lay out food for the bears or leave food in their cars. They are luring the bears to look for food in the wrong places…which leads to the bear being called a nuisance & dangerous and then trapped and killed.

Unless they do DNA test on the bear hair leftover from so-called previous attacks, how do they know they have the right bear in the trap?

  • Jenny

They don’t care if they have the right bear. It will be killed. Please note: there were no “previous attacks”. The bear wasn’t aggressive toward anyone either. The label “dangerous” is misleading. The bear broke into a car looking for food (probably learned behavior from someone leaving food prior), and damaged siding of a house, again looking for food. Fish & Game labels the bear a nuisance and dangerous for these behaviors.

  • stan atkinson

Jenny, I know. They’ll just appease the richy riches in Incline.

  • Bears, the new Native Americans

Move into and take over the bear’s habitat. The bear won’t assimilate to the human life and so it must be eliminated….Sounds like what Europeans did to Native Americans. I’d rather keep the bear and trap and euthanize the stupid mountain people that chose to live there. It would improve the Human Gene Pool.
