Woman Found Murdered Inside Of Cameron Park Home

CAMERON PARK (CBS13) - A normally quiet neighborhood was shattered Monday after a woman was found murdered. Her body was discovered in an upscale home along Aeronica Way in Cameron Park.

Neighbors are wondering about the man allegedly behind the killing.

When deputies first arrived at the home, they had to determine right away whether this was an accident or was it murder?

"Just calm quiet, neighbors are extremely friendly," said Matt Hunt, a nearby resident. "And they help each other out."

It's not a place where crime scene investigators and deputies normally respond to such a violent crime. And people who live in the Airpark neighborhood in Cameron Park certainly don't see this kind of activity.

"It shouldn't happen in general, but having lived in Cameron Park for 10 years plus, it's kind of scary," said Cameron Park resident Leanna Hunt.

It started with a 911 call. The caller said a woman was dead inside the home. When deputies arrived, they detained a man near the front porch.

At first, deputies classified the death as suspicious, but as the afternoon went on it became clear to detectives the woman was murdered. Following their investigation, detectives arrested 45-year-old Todd Winkler.

"It's kind of scary sometimes when it's so close to home; literally," said Matt.

It's still unclear what happened and how Winkler knows the victim. But for Matt and Leanna, the arrest gives them peace of mind.

"I wanted to know if we were safe," said Leanna.

But they still have questions.

"Was it personal or was it a random act of violence?" asked Leanna.

And as investigators put this case together, the one question everyone will be asking out here for the next several days is why?

As of right now, investigators are not releasing the victim's name until her family has been notified.
