Truckee Man Dies In Alaska Avalanche

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers say a second man has died after an avalanche hit a group of skiers and snowboarders in southeast Alaska.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said 26-year-old snowboarder Nick Dodov of Truckee, Calif., was flown to Seattle for treatment and died there Wednesday.

Robert Liberman of Telluride, Colo., was found dead after Tuesday's snowslide in the Haines area. The Anchorage Daily News said the 35-year-old Liberman was guiding the group for Alaska Heliskiing.

Peters says six to eight feet of snow buried the two men, who were part of a group of six skiing Takhin Ridge, off the Haines Highway.

Everyone in the group was wearing avalanche beacons, and a second nearby group of skiers rushed to help uncover those hit by the snow.
