KIRKWOOD (CBS13) – Two skiers were caught up in an avalanche at Kirkwood Mountain Resort Sunday afternoon, according to resort officials.

The avalanche was reported by ski resort guests at about 2:14. Ski patrol responded immediately and discovered a small slide has occurred in the far northwestern portion of Sentinel Bowl within the boundaries of the ski resort.

Two male skiers were able to ski out of the avalanche but both were injured. One of the skiers was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The other needed no treatment.

One of the Kirkwood chairlifts take guests through the area where the avalanche occurred, however it was closed for the day.

A Kirkwood official says it was snowing when the avalanche was reported and winds were light to moderate.
