UPDATE: Tow Truck Driver Dies After Hit-And-Run Accident On I-80

AUBURN (CBS13) - A tow truck driver was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 80 near Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon and later died at the hospital, according to the CHP.

The accident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. The victim was outside his Golden State Towing truck near his front door and partially in the No. 3 lane when he was hit, the CHP said. Several witnesses stopped to aid the man but the driver of the car that hit him drove off. The CHP is looking for the suspect vehicle, a dark-colored sedan.

Traffic was being diverted as all lanes of westbound 80 near the Ophir Road Exit for about an hour.

Placer Couny Fire paramedics performed CPR at the scene before the man was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and later pronounced dead. The victim's name wasn't immediately available.
