Rain Delayed But Storm Slowly Moving Across Sacramento Valley

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The weekend storm expected to hit Saturday morning stalled out along the coast but slowly moved into the Sacramento Valley.

Rain started falling around the region Saturday night but stayed away from the capital city.

Although Sacrament stayed dry, it was pouring rain along the Interstate 5 corridor from Dunnigan, through Arbuckle and up to Williams all evening long. Totals at 11 p.m. are already approaching 1 inch, and rain was falling at a rate of up to an additional inch per hour.

Because this storm is not moving much at all, we could see pooling of water on roads, in neighborhoods, and small stream flooding in that area overnight.

We are also looking at the potential for thunderstorms to develop in the valley on Sunday. Just like last weekend, small hail is likely in any storms along with some moderate rain and gusty winds. Weekend highs will only be in the low 50s in the Sacrament area.

A winter weather advisory also goes into effect on Sunday for the foothills and Sierra. Colder temperatures mean low snow possible down to 3,000 feet in the foothills. At 4,000 feet and above, 4-6 inches of new snow is possible Sunday into Monday.

The chance of rain extends through the rest of next week and into next weekend for the Sacramento area.
