Orangevale Man Gunned Down After Opening Fire On Sheriff's Deputies Identified

ORANGEVALE (CBS13) – The man shot and killed by Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies on Thursday evening in Orangevale has been identified.

The Sacramento County Coroner's office has identified the man as 33-year-old Dennis Dean.

Thursday evening Sheriff's deputies went to a residence in the 9100 block of Kendrick Way with a search warrant, and made contact with Dean who then fled the home. After a short foot pursuit, the man was caught and detained.

After returning to the home to continue their investigation, Dean was able to retrieve a gun and fired several rounds at deputies, striking one officer's hand. Deputies returned fire and evacuated the building.

A robot was sent into the home and found Dean on the ground unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
