UPDATE: Man Dies After Being Shot In Scuffle With Stanislaus County Deputy

KEYES (CBS13) - A man was fatally shot in a scuffle with a Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy on Monday afternoon in the town of Keyes, south of Modesto.

Approximately 50 deputies and Sheriff Adam Christianson were on scene of a home in the 5700 Block of 10th Street where an elderly couple live with their adult son after the afternoon shooting.

A deputy was called out on a domestic call at 4:39 p.m. and encountered the suspect, who was reportedly combative. The deputy used his Taser on the man and then called for assistance, according to Sgt. Anthony Bejaran. While back-up units were en route to assist the deputy, he reported that he'd shot the man.

The man was taken out of the house on a gurney and pronounced dead at a Modesto hospital. The deputy was not injured.

The adult male was identified Tuesday as 32-year-old Jorge Ramirez of Keyes. The deputy was identified as Art Parra Jr., a six-year veteran of the sheriff's office. Deputy Para will be placed on administrative leave per department policy. The investigation is still ongoing and will be sent to the district attorney's office for review when complete.

Monday's incident follows an encounter last week where Stanislaus County Deputy Robert Paris and a civilian locksmith were fatally shot while trying to perform an eviction in Modesto.

"Nothing is routine for us," Bejaran said. "We never know what we're responding to until we can get there and determine what's actually happened."

The funeral for Paris will take place on Friday at noon at the Big Valley Grace Community Church on Tully Road in Modesto.
