Former USC Teammate Remembers Junior Seau

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) - Scott Galbraith was a freshman at USC when he was assigned to host a "big time" recruit named Junior Seau.

"Most recruits you say, you can play here, you'll get a chance to start, none of that with Junior. Junior knew that from day one," said Galbraith.

The two starred at USC and were drafted the same year into the NFL. They played on different teams but their friendship continued.

"We would come back to school on our bye dates and we would always connect when we played with each other," said Galbraith.

Galbraith played nine seasons, highlighted by a Superbowl win with the Cowboys. Seau played much longer, it was one of the most storied careers ever.

Though over the years, distance had kept them apart. Galbraith never expected to hear the news that Seau had apparently taken his own life.

"I heard on the news like everyone else," said Galbraith.

Galbraith says that he'll remember Seau, not only has a great athlete, but also as a terrific person. He remembers Seau in college, showing an unexpected act of kindness to a less talented teammate.

"Junior ran off the field during a game to give him a chance to play because he knew that his parents were there," said Galbraith. "But, that's the kind of guy Junior was."

Galbratih, now a minister, says he plans to attend Seau's funeral and say a prayer in honor of his fallen teammate.
