Police Officer Shoots Pit Bull In Isleton

ISLETON (CBS13) - A police officer shot a pit bull in Isleton on Thursday after responding to an incident where the dog was fighting with another dog.

The shooting happened on Second Street after two dogs who were with separate owners began fighting. A citizen tried to intervene and was also injured.

The pit bull was picked up by Sacramento County Animal Control Services and was being taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

The shooting comes a day after the Isleton police chief was placed on administrative leave by the city manager over critical comments on Facebook.

Police Chief Steven Adams told CBS13 on Wednesday that some of his officers' certificates have lapsed and the city refuses to pay to renew them.

The department was also temporarily shut down in January after worker's compensation coverage lapsed.
