Woman's Naked Body Found In Grass Valley Park

GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) – A woman's naked body was found in the parking lot of a Grass Valley park early Thursday morning.

The Grass Valley Police Department is investigating a report of a body found in Memorial Park after police dispatch received a call shortly after 7 a.m. of a body found near a pair of dumpsters in the parking lot.

Police identified the woman later Thursday as 49-year-old Leann Shuffield of Grass Valley.

After learning that a body had been found in the park, some residents said it makes them wary about even coming back.

"It's disgusting" Jayme McManus "Makes me think twice about coming here. It's really a family environment and a lot of kids come here all the time."

"Grass Valley is not as small as you think it is," Patrick Anderson said. "It's a little shocking. It doesn't surprise me. I mean, the world's a pretty ugly place."

After initiating the investigation, police asked for assistance from the state Department of Justice.

"Mainly to make sure we're as thorough as possible that we don't miss anything that could lead to identifying the cause," police Capt. Rex Marks said.

Anyone with any information on Thursday's incident is asked to call the Grass Valley Police Department at (530) 477-4600.
