Fire Damages Salon At Fountains Shopping Center In Roseville

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - Fire sprinklers were able to keep flames from spreading inside a salon and boutique at the Fountains shopping center in Roseville.

Andrew Floor, owner of Article Salon Spa and Boutique, woke up Friday morning to find a voicemail from the fire department.

"I'm still trying to put my head around it," he said. "It was pretty alarming."

Firefighters arrived early Friday morning to find water and smoke pouring from the building. They first tried the lock to get in but failed, so they smashed the glass on the front door to gain entry. Once inside, they found the fire coming from the storeroom.

"You can see there's conduit that runs up the lighting and stuff that's above here," Floor said. "Something sparked up and caught the insulation on fire."

Floor says the fire was in the drop ceiling above the spa area. Fire investigators say it looks like it could be an electrical fire.

"All things considered, it's minimal damage really," Floor said. "There's not a lot of damage to the space. That drop ceiling is kind of destroyed, and then smoke and water damage, but there's no real evidence of a large fire."

And it could have been a lot worse, Roseville Fire Assistant Chief Jeff Carman said.

"Sprinkler systems are lifesavers and property savers," he said. "In this case, as soon as that water's flowing in the building, it transmits an alarm to the fire department, gets us here in the first few minutes, and that sprinkler holds that fire in check."

Andrew said the salon would be closed Friday because they don't have electricity in the building but that he hopes the power is restored for them to be open over the weekend.

No other businesses were damaged.
