Man Sought In Rape Attempt Near American River College

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is searching for the suspect in a reported rape attempt earlier this week near American River College.

A woman was walking along Arcade Creek on Monday shortly before 7 p.m. when she reportedly was grabbed from behind by a man who put his arm around her neck, started choking her and held a knife to her side.

The suspect told the victim that he intended to rape and kill her.

The woman reportedly struggled with the suspect throughout the encounter and was ultimately able to break away from him. She then ran away and the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect is described as white, between 24 and 28 years old, between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall and about 180 to 200 pounds. He has short, shaved blonde hair, and was clean-shaven but appeared dirty and unkempt, the woman reported. He wore a light-colored T-shirt and baggy blue jean shorts and was riding a blue BMX-style bicycle.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the sheriff's sexual assault detectives at (916) 874-5070.
