Woman Arrested After High-Speed Chase Ends In Chain-Reaction Crash On Highway 50

FOLSOM (CBS13) – A woman has been arrested after leading officers on a high-speed chase on Highway 50 that ended in a chain-reaction crash in the middle of a Caltrans construction zone.

The chase began when Folsom Police tried to pull over a woman behind the wheel of a car going over 100 miles per hour as it was entering Highway 50.

When the pursuit neared a highway construction area on Highway 50 near Sunrise, police backed off the chase, however, the suspect kept going.

The driver ended up rear-ending a car that had slowed for the construction zone pushing it into another car. The suspect car eventually came to a stop on the shoulder.

"There were sparks everywhere," said Rachael Guthrie who witnessed the crash. "That's all I saw in my rearview mirror. I never actually saw the car coming. I saw the sparks once it hit the wall and the other car."

Three women were actually in the suspect vehicle. The driver was arrested and is being investigated for possible DUI.
