Roseville Grandfather Arrested For Child Porn Accused Of Stalking Witness

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The suspicious death of a 2-year-old Roseville girl led to her grandfather's arrest on unrelated child porn charges.

You may remember Daniel McGrath as the grandfather of McKinley Wilder, who died in April.

Investigators say McGrath stalked a woman from Placer County all the way to the West Sacramento police station.

Sources tell CBS13 that she's a friend of McKinley's father.

As McGrath allegedly followed the woman, for nearly 30 miles, police say he was on the phone with her and threatening her not to testify against him.

McGrath, already facing child porn charges, is now accused of stalking and intimidating a witness.

"He says it's totally not true," said Eric Hintz, McGrath's attorney.

After a brief court appearance in Yolo County on Wednesday, McGrath and family aren't talking.

The 58-year-old grandfather was arrested in May after investigators say they uncovered his stash of more than 3,000 illicit pictures and videos of children, some as young as babies.

The discovery was made while police investigated the death of McKinley. Her mom, McGrath's daughter Denise Wilder, now faces child abuse charges in connection with McKinley's death.

Denise and McKinley's father Mark were embroiled in a bitter divorce when McKinley died.

McGrath denies stalking anyone. He tells his attorney that he was trying to serve legal papers for a visitation case involving McKinley's surviving sister, 5-year-old Kennedy.

"I was trying to find out where my ex son-in-law lives so we can serve legal papers on him in connection with a grandparent visitation case," said Hintz, quoting McGrath.
