Modesto Police Recover $23,000 In Stolen Construction Equipment

MODESTO (CBS13) - Acting on an anonymous tip, Modesto Police officers recovered $23,000 in stolen heavy equipment earlier this week.

Police served a search warrant at a home in the 2700 block of Merle Avenue on Thursday after getting a tip that a Skyjack scissor lift would be found on the property.

They recovered the stolen scissor lift as well as additional heavy construction equipment. The scissor lift was determined to have been stolen on Sept. 18 from a construction site at the Days Inn at 1312 McHenry Avenue.

The additional stolen construction equipment, which included a 21-foot trailer, a Bobcat bucket, a backhoe bucket and 24-inch and 36-inch augers, were all determined to have been stolen on Sept. 4 from a construction site at Mary Grogan Community Park, police said.

The owner of the residence, Carlos Nava, 34, was already in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail for an unrelated crime. He was re-booked for grand theft.

The Modesto Police Department recently created Burglary Patrol Detail investigated the incident. The unit was created to curb the spike in property crimes, according to the department.
